The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged killing of a man in Gwaram Town, Alkaleri Local Government Area, following a critical breakthrough that stemmed from the recovery of the victim’s motorcycle. The arrests were made during an ongoing investigation into a culpable homicide case reported at the Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters on March 7, 2026. The police disclosed that the suspects were apprehended after one of them was found in possession of the victim’s motorcycle, which led to further investigative leads. The incident has drawn attention from security authorities and residents in the region, who are hopeful for justice.
SP Nafiu Habib, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Tuesday. He revealed that the first suspect, Muhammad Umar, popularly known as “Jijji,” was apprehended on June 19 while allegedly riding the motorcycle linked to the deceased. The discovery of the motorcycle in Umar’s possession provided crucial evidence that accelerated the investigation. Habib emphasized that information gathered during Umar’s interrogation directly led to the arrest of two other suspects.
The two additional suspects are identified as Usman M. Gidado, 45, and Danladi Yakubu, alias “Pagaj,” 35, both residents of Gwaram Town. According to police, the trio is now under investigation for their alleged involvement in the fatal incident. Investigators also recovered the motorcycle believed to belong to the victim during the operation. Habib stated, “The suspect was arrested in possession of a motorcycle belonging to the deceased victim. Information obtained during interrogation aided the arrest of two other suspects linked to the incident.”
The suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further interrogation and legal proceedings. The recovered motorcycle has been retained as an exhibit to support the ongoing investigation. Authorities are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing, including the motive and sequence of events leading to the victim’s death. The police have urged anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the case.
This development marks a significant step in the pursuit of justice for the victim and his family. The arrest of the three suspects demonstrates the commitment of the Bauchi State Police Command to uphold law and order in the region. As investigations continue, the public is being reassured that the authorities are taking the matter seriously. The case is expected to proceed through the legal system, with further updates anticipated as more details emerge.
