A man known only as “Stone” was killed in a violent cult clash in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, after being shot and macheted during a confrontation between suspected rival groups. The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. along Wasimi Ake Road, between Centenary Hall and Lotus Bank, near the Ijemo Agbadu axis. Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing hoodlums engaged in a fierce fight before fleeing on foot into nearby streets. The victim, identified as a former number one of the Buccaneer cult group, was found lying in a pool of blood with severe gunshot wounds and machete injuries to his head.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, who stated that detectives from the Oke Itoku Division were immediately dispatched to the scene following distress calls. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of the deceased, who was swiftly evacuated by the State Ambulance Service to the State Hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta. He was pronounced dead on arrival, and his body has since been taken to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Babaseyi emphasized that the violence was not linked to the Yayi Progressive Movement inauguration program held at Ake Palace, which had drawn widespread public attention.

He clarified that the clash was strictly localized to the Wasimi Ake–Ijemo Agbadu area and did not involve any political or public event. The police have launched a full-scale investigation and are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend those responsible. Babaseyi urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, assuring that law enforcement is intensifying efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. The police have also increased patrols in the area to prevent further escalation of violence.

This incident highlights the persistent challenge of cult-related violence in Abeokuta, despite ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb such activities. Authorities are now under pressure to address the root causes of these clashes and strengthen community policing strategies.
