Kwara State Police Command has arrested 16 suspects in connection with a range of serious crimes, including kidnapping, conspiracy, attempted murder, cultism, and armed robbery, following coordinated operations across the state. The arrests, made on July 20, 2026, during a stop-and-search operation along the Oko-Olowo/Alapa axis, resulted in the recovery of several stolen items, including nine cartons of i17 Air Flip mobile phones, 10 cartons of i17 Air Pro Flip phones, four power banks from brands like Oraimo, New Age, and Rex, and two wristwatches. Among those apprehended are three minors—Ali Umaru (16), Alhaji Mosu (17), and Abacha Babagana (14)—who are facing charges related to unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.
At a press briefing held in Ilorin on Friday, the State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed that all suspects have been remanded at the appropriate juvenile correctional centre pending further legal proceedings. He also disclosed that one Aliyu Mohammed was arrested for alleged conspiracy, kidnapping, aiding and abetting kidnapping, and attempted murder. This arrest followed a distress report received on July 15, 2026, about the abduction of Miss Shekinat Mukaila, 26, in Wande Community under the Oro-Ago Kingdom. During the incident, her father, the Baale of the community, was shot while trying to resist the attackers.
The police command swiftly secured the area and evacuated the injured Baale to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), where he received treatment and has since been discharged. The victim, Miss Mukaila, was also successfully rescued. In another case, six suspects—Mohammed Jamiu, Fashola Abdulfatai, Daniel Gideon, Adegoke Oladimeji, Aliyu Yusuf, and Abubakar Ahmed—were apprehended in connection with the disappearance of Suleiman Rilwan, 29, since July 26, 2026. Investigations revealed a criminal conspiracy led by Jamiu Mohammed, who confessed during interrogation and provided information leading to the discovery of Rilwan’s body in an abandoned well in Offa.
The confession generated further leads, resulting in the arrest of five additional suspects believed to have aided in the planning and execution of the crime. Five other individuals—Oluwafemi Bukoye, Israel Ogungbe, Adesoye Abdulwarith, Dayo Sesan, and Ismail Abdul Malik—were arrested for alleged involvement in cultism and membership of an unlawful society. Four others—Ahmed Alhaji Ahmadu, Abubakar Mohammed, Mustapha Mohammed, and Mohammed Tsado—are being investigated for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide linked to the murder of Mohammadu A. on June 3, 2026.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mohammadu A. was killed after being lured away by someone offering directions while grazing livestock. His body was found in a bush with multiple injuries, and his motorcycle and N500,000 were missing. Detectives secured the scene and conducted a post-mortem examination. These developments underscore the police’s commitment to restoring security and bringing criminals to justice in Kwara State. Authorities continue to urge citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help prevent future crimes.
