Kebbi Government Denies Involvement in ADC Leadership Dispute

The Kebbi State Government has firmly denied any involvement in the ongoing court case between two factional chairmen of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, emphasizing that it has no affiliation with the political party. In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, in Birnin Kebbi, the government dismissed claims that it is behind the legal battle between Abdulrasak Abubakar and Sufiyanu Bala, who are currently facing each other in court over allegations of contempt. The government stated it is neither a member of the ADC nor connected to its internal affairs, describing the dispute as a matter for the party to resolve internally.

The statement noted that the ADC has been embroiled in a prolonged leadership crisis, which has led to multiple court actions by rival factions. The government expressed concern over certain media reports that it claimed were biased and lacked journalistic integrity. It accused some journalists of publishing one-sided accounts without being present during court proceedings, thereby undermining the principles of fair and ethical reporting. The government urged media practitioners to uphold professional standards and avoid spreading unverified claims that could mislead the public.

The Kebbi State Government also rejected accusations by one of the factional chairmen that it is interfering in the court process, calling the allegation “baseless.” It reiterated that the issue is not linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other political party, but rather an internal conflict within the ADC. The government stressed that political parties should resolve their disputes through internal mechanisms, not through public accusations or media speculation.

It further maintained that it has never targeted or victimized members of any political party, and that the claims against it are false and misleading. The government’s position is clear: it remains neutral in party politics and will not be drawn into internal disputes that do not involve state functions or public interest. The statement concluded with a call for calm and responsible reporting, urging all stakeholders to allow the legal process to run its course without external interference.

As the court case continues, the Kebbi State Government’s denial underscores its commitment to staying out of party politics while promoting transparency and accountability in governance. The outcome of the legal battle may have implications for the ADC’s stability in the state, but the government insists it will not play any role in the resolution. This development highlights the need for political parties to manage internal conflicts responsibly, without implicating public institutions or distorting facts.
