Nigerian Army troops have successfully rescued 34 kidnap victims, apprehended suspected ISWAP informants, and recovered weapons and ammunition in coordinated military operations across several states in the last 24 hours. The operations, conducted under various counter-insurgency and anti-terrorism campaigns, spanned Borno, Adamawa, Zamfara, Kogi, Plateau, Delta, and Imo States. These efforts highlight the military’s intensified focus on dismantling terrorist networks and restoring security to vulnerable communities.
In Borno State, troops of Operation HADIN KAI rescued 31 civilians from abductors along the Buratai-Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area. The rescue followed intelligence gathered through CCTV surveillance by the 135 Special Forces Battalion, which detected ISWAP/JAS terrorists targeting four vehicles. A swift response by a quick reaction force led to an engagement that forced the terrorists to flee, abandoning the victims and leaving behind one motorcycle.
Meanwhile, in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area, soldiers from the 145 Battalion carried out a fighting patrol in the Turoh area. Upon sighting the troops, the insurgents fled, leaving behind two motorcycles and illicit drugs seized during post-operation exploitation. In Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa, troops of the 232 Battalion Tactical apprehended a suspected ISWAP informant at Garaha Market, further disrupting the group’s intelligence network.
In the North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops clashed with bandits moving rustled cattle in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara. The superior firepower of the military forced the terrorists into disarray and retreat. In Kogi State, Operation MESA personnel rescued a woman and her two children who had been kidnapped on July 29 from a Ruga settlement in Gada-Biyu, Lokoja Local Government Area.
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace in Plateau State responded to an attack on a herder in Bassa Local Government Area. Although the assailants had fled before arrival, the deceased and recovered cattle were handed over to the victim’s family. In the South-East, Operation UDO KA achieved a major breakthrough by arresting three suspects linked to the May 4 ambush on troops in Imo State. The arrests, made in Delta and Imo States, were based on intelligence from previously captured individuals.
During these operations, soldiers recovered four AK-47 rifles, one FN rifle, a pistol, 11 AK-47 magazines, two FN magazines, 239 rounds of assorted ammunition, a fragmentation jacket, and other military equipment. Notably, some of the weapons were those stolen during the May ambush, confirming the effectiveness of ongoing investigations. Further exploitation uncovered another terrorist camp containing additional arms and ammunition.
These coordinated actions underscore the Nigerian Army’s commitment to neutralizing terrorism and insecurity across the country. As military operations continue, authorities remain focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure and ensuring safe passage for civilians.
