Imo ZLP Submits State Assembly Candidates List to INEC After Primaries

The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Imo State has officially submitted its list of candidates for the State House of Assembly election to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following the successful conduct of its party primaries. The submission took place at the party’s secretariat in Owerri, marking a key step in the party’s preparation for the upcoming general elections. The candidates were selected through a consensus agreement, in full compliance with INEC’s revised electoral guidelines, ensuring transparency and fairness in the selection process.

Ichie Levi Ekeh, the state chairman of ZLP, led the submission and emphasized that the entire primary process was conducted in accordance with the Commission’s directives. He highlighted the party’s commitment to peaceful and orderly elections, noting that all members participated without incident. The consensus-based selection method was chosen to promote unity and avoid internal conflicts that could undermine the party’s campaign efforts.

Mrs. Nneka Eluogu, an INEC official who monitored the primary exercise, received the candidate list on behalf of the Commission. She described the primary as free, fair, and credible, commending the party leadership and members for their adherence to electoral protocols. Eluogu also praised the peaceful conduct of the exercise, noting that it set a positive example for other political parties in the state.

The submission of the House of Assembly candidates is part of ZLP’s broader electoral strategy in Imo State. The party has already begun preparations for its Senate and House of Representatives primary elections, which are expected to follow a similar consensus-based approach. These upcoming primaries will determine the party’s candidates for federal legislative positions, further strengthening its presence in national politics.

ZLP’s adherence to INEC’s guidelines reflects a growing trend among political parties to prioritize transparency and inclusivity in candidate selection. This approach not only enhances public trust but also strengthens the party’s credibility ahead of the general elections. The peaceful conduct of the primaries in Imo State sends a positive signal to voters and election observers alike.

As the electoral calendar progresses, ZLP’s actions in Imo State may influence how other parties conduct their primaries across Nigeria. The party’s focus on consensus and compliance with electoral rules could serve as a model for fair and inclusive internal elections. With the submission of its candidates now complete, ZLP is moving forward with confidence toward the next phase of its electoral campaign.
