The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) is experiencing a surge in political interest ahead of upcoming elections, with its National Chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, confirming that numerous politicians are reaching out to join the party. Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Baba-Ahmed highlighted the growing confidence in the PRP, describing it as a viable and principled political option for Nigerians seeking real change. He noted that in the last three to four weeks alone, a significant number of individuals have expressed their intent to switch allegiance to the PRP, signaling a shift in political dynamics across the country.
Baba-Ahmed emphasized that the party’s doors are open to all who wish to join, whether they are seeking a fresh political platform or have been marginalized by existing parties. “Our doors are open to anybody who wants to come in, either on their own or because the system has blocked and virtually destroyed their party,” he stated. He clarified that these new entrants are not merely political refugees but individuals drawn to the PRP’s long-standing commitment to principles and values. “They are not just coming as political refugees. They are coming because we are a party of principles,” he added.
The PRP chairman also underscored the party’s historical significance, noting that it is one of the oldest political parties in Nigeria, with a legacy spanning nearly 70 years. “We are about 70 years old. We have always stood on certain principles,” Baba-Ahmed said, reinforcing the party’s credibility and continuity. Despite acknowledging that time remains a challenge in building momentum, he expressed confidence that the PRP can overcome obstacles and deliver meaningful impact in the coming months.
He further explained that the party is actively engaging with interested individuals and has established clear entry conditions. “They know our doors are open. They know they are welcome. But we ask them to join the party first before we start talking to them,” Baba-Ahmed said, highlighting the PRP’s structured approach to membership and political inclusion. He also stressed that the party’s role in the next few months will be far greater than in previous years, reflecting its increasing relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
With growing interest and a clear vision, the PRP is positioning itself as a key player in Nigeria’s upcoming elections. Baba-Ahmed’s statements reflect a party that is not only open to new members but also committed to upholding its foundational values while adapting to the evolving political environment. As Nigerians continue to seek genuine alternatives, the PRP’s resurgence may signal a turning point in the country’s democratic journey.
