Gov Yusuf Mediates Peace Between Barau Jibrin and Abubakar Kabir Amid APC Rift in Kano

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has brokered a reconciliation between Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and Abubakar Kabir, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, to end their political rift within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano. The meeting took place in Abuja on Wednesday and lasted approximately two hours, during which both leaders engaged in open dialogue aimed at resolving their differences and restoring party unity. Governor Yusuf emphasized that cooperation among APC leaders is crucial for the party’s success in Kano and across Nigeria.

The disagreement between Jibrin and Kabir stemmed from competition for influence and control over key party structures in Kano State. This rivalry had sparked tension not only between the two lawmakers but also among their supporters, leading to public exchanges and strained relationships within the party. Recognizing the threat this posed to APC’s cohesion, Governor Yusuf intervened to mediate and restore harmony.

During the reconciliation session, Yusuf urged both politicians and their followers to put aside personal interests and focus on strengthening the APC ahead of upcoming elections and governance challenges. He stressed that while disagreements are natural in politics, they must not be allowed to undermine the party’s stability or progress. “We must put a stop to these unnecessary distractions,” he said, warning against personal attacks and provocative comments that could reignite conflict.

Yusuf also called for unity behind President Bola Tinubu, the Kano State Government, and other APC candidates across the country. He highlighted that a united front is essential for electoral victories and effective governance. Both Jibrin and Kabir acknowledged the governor’s efforts and publicly committed to working together for the party’s growth and success at all levels.

In separate statements, the two lawmakers appealed to their supporters to avoid actions that might deepen divisions within the APC in Kano. They pledged to support party initiatives and maintain peace, reinforcing the message of unity and collaboration. Their commitment signals a potential shift toward greater cooperation within the party’s leadership structure in the state.

This reconciliation comes at a critical time as the APC prepares for future elections and seeks to consolidate its position in northern Nigeria. With key figures now aligned, the party may be better positioned to present a united front in Kano and beyond. The outcome of this meeting could set a precedent for resolving internal conflicts within Nigerian political parties through dialogue and leadership intervention.
