Gov Uba Sani Constitutes Consensus Committee for 2027 Elections

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has established a high-level consensus committee on Party Harmonization and Aspirant’s Engagement to strengthen internal democracy, promote unity, and ensure peaceful electoral processes ahead of upcoming elections. The committee, announced on Wednesday through a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, is designed to foster dialogue and mutual understanding among political aspirants and party stakeholders across the state. Its primary goal is to prevent conflicts, mediate disputes, and build consensus in constituencies where multiple candidates are vying for party nominations.

The committee will serve as a platform for constructive engagement between aspirants, party leaders, and other key stakeholders. It will work to facilitate amicable resolutions in areas where competing interests exist, ensuring peace and cohesion within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State. According to the statement, the committee will also encourage voluntary withdrawals from the race where necessary, in the interest of party harmony and electoral success.

Governor Sani’s move underscores his commitment to inclusive leadership and internal party cohesion. The initiative is seen as a proactive step to prevent internal divisions that could weaken the party’s chances in the elections. By promoting dialogue and consensus, the committee aims to create a unified front that can effectively compete in the political arena.

The committee is chaired by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, with Arch Abubakar Rabiu, Secretary of the APC, serving as Secretary. Other prominent members include Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman; Kaduna State APC Chairman, Mr. Atiku Sankey; and Secretary to the State Government, Dr. AbdulKadir Muazu Meyere. The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Sani Kila, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Dr. James Kanyip, and Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, are also part of the team. Additionally, Dr. Mustapha Musa, Deputy Chief of Staff and Legal Services, is included in the committee’s membership.

This strategic appointment of respected leaders from various sectors of governance and party structures reflects a deliberate effort to bring credibility and impartiality to the harmonization process. The committee’s composition ensures broad representation and access to critical decision-making channels within the state’s political framework.

As the electoral season approaches, the committee’s role becomes increasingly vital in maintaining stability and preventing fragmentation within the party. Its success will likely influence the APC’s performance in Kaduna State and set a precedent for other states facing similar challenges. The initiative signals a shift towards structured, transparent, and consensus-driven politics in the region.
