Galatasaray Chief Reveals Arsenal Sporting Directors Surprised Reaction to Osimhen Deal

Victor Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray has become a landmark transfer in European football, with the Nigerian striker’s financial package and commercial value drawing global attention, including from top clubs like Arsenal. The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner joined the Turkish Super Lig champions on a permanent deal last summer after his five-year stint at Napoli, with Galatasaray activating his €75 million release clause. Despite interest from Premier League and Saudi Arabian clubs, Osimhen chose to return to Istanbul, where he has quickly become a central figure both on and off the pitch.

Osimhen’s contract with Galatasaray includes a guaranteed annual salary of €15 million, a net loyalty bonus of €1 million per season, and an additional €5 million annually from image rights. Over the four-year duration of his deal, the club’s total financial commitment is projected to reach approximately €159 million. This substantial investment reflects Galatasaray’s long-term vision and belief in Osimhen’s ability to lead their attack and elevate the club’s global profile.

Galatasaray’s vice-president Abdullah Kavukcu recently revealed that even Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, was surprised by the scale of Osimhen’s financial package during a recent visit to Istanbul. “Their budget is 800 million euros. We will have a budget of 500 million euros this year,” Kavukcu told HT Spor, highlighting the contrast in financial models. He emphasized that Osimhen’s value extends beyond his on-field performance, noting that the club would not consider selling him even for a staggering €150 million, though he acknowledged the final decision rests with the president.

Kavukcu also pointed to the significant commercial returns Osimhen has generated for the club. He stated that the Super Eagles star is expected to bring in approximately €22 million in revenue from endorsements and brand partnerships. Galatasaray currently has three advertising deals with Osimhen, each generating €2 million per year, adding up to €6 million annually. “The Osimhen transfer has added a lot to us; we have reaped the rewards of our ambition,” Kavukcu said, underscoring the strategic importance of the signing.

On the pitch, Osimhen’s impact has been immediate and decisive. He played a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s 4-2 comeback victory over Antalyaspor, scoring twice in the second half to help secure the Super Lig title for a fourth consecutive season. His performances have solidified his status as one of the most valuable players in Turkish football and a key asset for Nigeria’s national team.

As Galatasaray continues to build on this success, Osimhen’s presence is expected to attract further investment and global interest, reinforcing the club’s position as a major force in European football.
