The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has arrested four individuals suspected of stealing aluminium roofing sheets from the School of Nursing in Hadejia, following a surveillance patrol conducted on Tuesday. The suspects were apprehended behind the school’s perimeter fence by operatives from the Gandun Sarki Division, who were monitoring critical public infrastructure as part of ongoing security operations. The arrest highlights the Corps’ commitment to protecting public assets and preventing acts of vandalism across the state.
According to ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the operation was carried out in line with the NSCDC’s mandate to secure public facilities and maintain law and order. The suspects were found in possession of 13 square metres of aluminium roofing sheets, which are believed to have been stolen from the institution during ongoing renovation work. The incident has raised concerns about the security protocols at the school, especially since one of the suspects is a security guard employed at the facility.
Tijjani identified the four suspects as Adamu Mohammed, 31, a security guard residing in Ramin Zaki Quarters, Hadejia; Dan Inu Mohammed, 35, a carpenter from Gandun Sarki in Malam Madori Local Government Area; Isma’ila Adamu, 30, a tricycle operator from the same community; and Bashari Yahaya, 25, an apprentice also from Gandun Sarki. Preliminary investigations revealed that the involvement of a staff member in the theft points to serious lapses in internal security at the school.
The NSCDC spokesperson emphasized that the command has formally notified the management of the School of Nursing, Hadejia, about the security shortcomings. He urged the institution to review and strengthen its internal security measures to prevent future incidents. The Corps is also working closely with school authorities to ensure accountability and restore public confidence in the safety of educational facilities.
Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC, CC Muhammad Ingawa, reiterated the Corps’ resolve to combat vandalism and protect public infrastructure. He warned that anyone engaging in theft, sabotage, or other criminal acts will face the full force of the law. The command will continue to enhance surveillance, intelligence gathering, and enforcement operations to ensure justice is served.
The arrest underscores the importance of vigilance in safeguarding public property, especially in institutions undergoing development. As the NSCDC intensifies its security operations, communities are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement to maintain peace and order.
