Former Galatasaray Chief Admits Repeating Osimhens N119B Deal Will Be Extremely Difficult

Former Galatasaray vice-president Abdurrahim Albayrak has acknowledged that repeating the club’s record-breaking signing of Victor Osimhen will be extremely challenging, despite the Turkish giants’ ongoing ambition to compete at the highest level in European football. The 75 million euros (approximately N119 billion) transfer, completed in July 2025, marked the most expensive deal in Turkish football history and came after Osimhen’s successful stint with Napoli, where he was named African Footballer of the Year. The move also saw him leave Napoli after his release clause was activated by Galatasaray, despite strong interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League and Europe’s top five leagues.

Osimhen’s arrival at Galatasaray coincided with the club’s domestic double triumph in the 2024-25 season, further cementing his impact on the team. His performances have drawn global attention, and Albayrak admitted the signing was a historic moment for the club. “It is in the hearts of all Galatasaray fans, but to be realistic, the teams we are facing are very strong,” Albayrak said in an interview with NTV, via Ajansspor. He emphasized that while the world press celebrated the transfer, replicating such a move financially is not feasible at the moment.

The former executive highlighted the immense financial pressure involved in acquiring elite players like Osimhen. “We signed Osimhen and paid 75 million euros. The entire world press was buzzing about it. He contributed a lot to Galatasaray. Paying 75 million euros a second or third time is very difficult right now,” he explained. Albayrak stressed that Galatasaray remains committed to making quality signings, even if they are not of the same magnitude as Osimhen’s. He expressed confidence in the club’s ability to attract top talent, while acknowledging the competitive landscape of European football.

Despite having three years remaining on his contract with Galatasaray, Osimhen has become a target for several European powerhouses. Clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Arsenal are reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window. This interest underscores Osimhen’s continued value and influence in the global football market. Albayrak, however, remained optimistic about Galatasaray’s future, stating that the dream of every club management is to win the UEFA Champions League. “God willing, just as He granted us the UEFA Cup, He will also grant us the Champions League,” he said.

The story of Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray continues to shape narratives around Nigerian football talent and its global reach. As the club navigates financial realities and competitive ambitions, the legacy of this landmark transfer remains a defining moment in Turkish football history. The future of Osimhen’s career and Galatasaray’s pursuit of European glory will remain closely watched by fans and analysts alike.
