The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Dr. Johnpaul Anih-led State Working Committee (SWC), following a decisive meeting of party stakeholders, executives, and members on Saturday. The gathering, held across the state’s 17 local government areas, condemned attempts by unnamed individuals to destabilize the party and warned against any actions that could undermine its unity and progress. Participants emphasized that the current leadership, which emerged from a valid congress monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has revitalized the NDC in Enugu and positioned it for success in upcoming elections.
Hon. Jonathan Ogbu, chairman of the NDC in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, spoke passionately after the meeting, praising the Anih-led executive for transforming the party’s fortunes. He stressed that without this leadership, the NDC would not be recognized in Enugu State today. “This is the only leadership that emerged through a legitimate process,” Ogbu said, adding that efforts by certain politicians spending foreign currency in Abuja to disrupt the party would be firmly resisted. He highlighted the committee’s grassroots mobilization and developmental programs as key factors that have made the party more attractive and relevant.
Similarly, Hon. Kingsley Ape, chairman of the party in Igboeze North, and Hon. Stephen Ajah from Aninri, echoed Ogbu’s sentiments. They noted that the Anih-led executive had ensured the NDC’s inclusion on the ballot for the forthcoming local government chairmanship and councillorship elections. Without this leadership, they argued, the party would not have secured its place in the electoral process. The stakeholders declared their full confidence in the SWC, stating it enjoys broad support across all local government areas in the state.
The party leaders warned that any attempt to tamper with the existing leadership could lead to a mass exodus of members. They cautioned against the creation of parallel structures or acts designed to sow discord within the party. Such actions, they stressed, would be met with strong resistance to preserve the party’s cohesion and integrity. They also expressed concern over recent developments involving the national leadership, urging it to handle internal matters with fairness and adherence to the party’s constitution.
In a show of solidarity, the stakeholders called on all NDC members in Enugu State to remain united and focused on building a stronger political platform. They pledged continued support for the Anih-led committee and affirmed their commitment to protecting the party’s integrity. As the NDC prepares for future electoral contests, the Enugu chapter remains determined to advance its political objectives with unity and discipline.
