Enugu Guber Aspirant Ogenyi Urges Calm Amid NDC Primary Officials No-Show

A governorship aspirant in Enugu State under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Dozie Ogenyi, has called on party members to remain calm after a major disruption in the party’s primary elections, where election officials failed to show up despite a large turnout of supporters. The NDC conducted its primary elections nationwide on Friday, but Enugu State became a focal point of chaos due to factional tensions and logistical failures. Party members across several local government areas waited for hours without any officials arriving to oversee the process, leading to frustration and uncertainty.

Ogenyi, accompanied by senatorial aspirant Bishop Oscar Okwudili Ossai and other prominent NDC leaders in the state, visited multiple polling venues in Nsukka, Igbo-Eze South, Uzo-Uwani, and other areas. At each location, he was greeted by large crowds of party supporters eager to participate in the primary. Despite the enthusiasm and high turnout, no election officials from the party’s national office arrived to conduct the voting, leaving the process in limbo.

Addressing supporters in various locations, Ogenyi expressed concern over the delay, stating, “Those being expected to come from Enugu to conduct the primaries have caused unnecessary delay.” He reassured the crowd that the national leadership of the NDC would soon provide guidance and resolve the situation. He urged members to maintain peace and avoid any form of confrontation, emphasizing that the party’s unity must be preserved despite the current challenges.

In Nsukka Local Government Area, party supporters, after waiting for hours without results or officials, began forming long queues behind their preferred candidates. This spontaneous action highlighted the desperation and commitment of members to see the primary process through, even in the absence of formal procedures. The scene reflected the deep engagement of NDC members in Enugu, despite the internal divisions that have plagued the party in recent months.

The delay in Enugu State is part of a broader pattern of challenges faced by the NDC during its nationwide primaries. While other states managed to conduct their elections smoothly, Enugu’s factionalism and logistical mismanagement have created a significant bottleneck. The absence of officials has raised questions about the party’s preparedness and internal coordination, especially in a state where political competition is fierce.

As the NDC national leadership prepares to respond, the situation in Enugu remains tense but controlled. The party’s ability to resolve this crisis will be a test of its organizational strength and commitment to fair, transparent processes. The outcome could influence the party’s chances in the upcoming general elections, particularly in a state where political dynamics are highly competitive.
