An elderly man, Muhammad Bello, has been hospitalised after being struck by a fleeing vehicle in Agbowa community along the inward Itoikin Road in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The incident occurred at approximately 2:10 pm on Wednesday, prompting an emergency response from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). According to LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s LRT Lion Squad was dispatched immediately and arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of receiving the distress call.
Upon arrival, responders found Muhammad Bello lying injured by the roadside following the collision. The vehicle involved had fled the scene shortly after hitting him, leaving the victim alone and vulnerable. Initial medical assessment conducted by LASEMA paramedics revealed that Bello sustained serious injuries, including suspected fractures to both legs. Due to the severity of his condition, he was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent and comprehensive medical care.
Oke-Osanyintolu expressed deep sympathy for the victim and his family, emphasizing the need for greater road safety awareness among drivers.
