David Olofu Emerges ADC Senatorial Candidate for Benue South

Dr David Olofu, former Commissioner for Finance in Benue State, has been officially declared the African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Benue South ahead of the 2027 general elections. His emergence followed party primaries held across the nine local government areas in the senatorial district, culminating in a formal declaration in Otukpo on Sunday. The ADC Returning Officer, Barr. Ogah Ekwu, confirmed Olofu’s victory, stating that he met all constitutional requirements and was elected as the sole candidate for the party in the zone.

Olofu’s selection came through a consensus process that reflected broad support from party members across Benue South. In his acceptance speech, he emphasized that his victory was not personal but a collective triumph for the people of the region. He pledged to lead with inclusivity, ensuring that all stakeholders and interest groups are represented in his governance framework. “Representation for Benue South shall no longer be a one-man show,” he declared, announcing plans to establish the Benue South People’s Assembly and Benue South People’s Council to foster deeper consultation and unity.

Security remains a top priority for Olofu, who highlighted the devastating impact of insecurity on the district’s agricultural economy. He stressed that protecting lives and communities must be the first action if elected, as insecurity has crippled farming activities and stifled economic growth. “As outlined in my blueprint, my first charge shall be the protection of our people,” he said, adding that restoring peace will unlock the full potential of Benue South’s agricultural sector.

Olofu’s vision for the region includes building a secure, productive, and well-connected zone. He aims to develop a strong educational system, improve infrastructure, and ensure a government that is accountable and responsive to citizens. He also assured party members that no political bloc or group would be marginalized in his campaign or future governance. His leadership, he said, will be defined by unity, inclusion, and purposeful representation.

The ADC’s choice of Olofu signals a strategic move to consolidate support in Benue South, a region with significant political and economic influence. His experience in finance and public service positions him as a credible candidate for the upcoming elections. As the 2027 general elections draw nearer, Olofu’s campaign is expected to focus on security, agriculture, and grassroots engagement, setting the stage for a competitive race in the senatorial district.
