Cubana Chief Priest, a prominent Nigerian socialite and businessman, has publicly clarified his stance on the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State, stating he did not participate in the exercise. The announcement came via a detailed statement shared on his Instagram story on Sunday, where he explained his decision was based on respect for the party’s zoning arrangement and leadership directives. He emphasized that he had consulted with Governor Hope Uzodimma, the APC leader in Imo State, who outlined the party’s position that Orlu Local Government Area should retain the seat for at least two terms before it rotates to another area.
According to Cubana, Governor Uzodimma cited fairness, noting that Cubana’s elder brother, Asiwaju Jerry Alagboso, had previously served three terms in the House of Representatives from Oru East. The governor argued that it was not the turn of Cubana’s local government area to contest the seat at this time. Cubana acknowledged and respected this decision, despite his personal conviction that the incumbent representative was not meeting the expectations of the people. He made it clear that his aspiration was driven by a genuine desire to serve and elevate political consciousness in the constituency.
The party ultimately adopted its zoning plan and selected preferred candidates, instructing them to proceed with the primary process. In deference to party leadership and internal agreements, Cubana chose not to participate. He confirmed that he did not attend any primary election venue and returned directly to Lagos after the decision was communicated to him early Saturday morning. He urged supporters to disregard online misinformation and baseless claims that he was involved in the primary, calling such attempts “laughable” and driven by individuals seeking unnecessary attention.
Cubana stressed that his political aspiration was not influenced by any obligation or debt to anyone, but stemmed entirely from his own conviction. He expressed pride in the energy and support generated by his campaign, affirming that democracy thrives on active participation and healthy engagement. He also reaffirmed his commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 and the Renewed Hope agenda, pledging continued advocacy and mobilization efforts.
He encouraged members of the City Boy Movement and his supporters to remain calm, focused, and loyal to the APC. Cubana declared his unwavering loyalty to the party, stating that the APC remains his party “today and always.” He concluded by reiterating his support for Asiwaju Jerry Alagboso and the broader progress of Nigeria. Daily Post reports that Cubana, who serves as Imo State Coordinator of the City Boys Movement, received only 14 votes in the primary, marking the end of his bid for the seat. His statement underscores the ongoing dynamics of party politics, zoning, and personal conviction within Nigeria’s electoral landscape.
