The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially announced Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, making him the running mate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The announcement, made through a statement by ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, highlights Amaechi’s extensive political experience and strategic value to the party’s national ticket. The decision follows extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives from all six geopolitical zones across Nigeria.
Amaechi’s selection comes after he emerged as the runner-up in the ADC’s presidential primaries, a result that underscored his broad appeal and strong support among party members nationwide. The party leadership emphasized that his candidacy is not just a political choice but a strategic move to build a national coalition capable of addressing Nigeria’s deep-rooted challenges. The Atiku-Amaechi ticket, according to the ADC, represents a union of two seasoned statesmen with proven leadership, national reach, and governance experience.
Amaechi’s public service record is among the most comprehensive in modern Nigerian politics. He served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, one of the longest-serving legislative leaders in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic. He later governed Rivers State for two terms, during which he prioritized infrastructure, education, healthcare, and public sector reforms. At the federal level, he served as Minister of Transportation, spearheading major rail modernization and transportation projects that transformed the sector.
His experience spans both legislative and executive arms of government, a rare combination that the ADC believes will strengthen the next administration from day one. Beyond his credentials, Amaechi brings political influence across the South-South and wider Southern Nigeria, a reputation for reform, and a proven ability to build cross-regional and cross-ethnic coalitions. These qualities, the party argues, make him the ideal complement to Atiku Abubakar’s national profile.
Together, the ADC leadership asserts, Atiku and Amaechi form a truly national ticket that bridges generations, regions, and political traditions. Their combined expertise in governance, economic management, and nation-building offers Nigerians a credible alternative to current leadership challenges. At a time when Nigerians demand competent leadership, job creation, security, and unity, the party says the Atiku-Amaechi ticket signals readiness to govern and deliver results.
The ADC calls on all party members, coalition partners, civil society, youth groups, and women leaders to join the campaign. The party remains confident that this partnership will energize its growing coalition and inspire hope for a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria. As the 2027 elections approach, the Atiku-Amaechi ticket is positioning itself as a unifying force ready to lead the nation into a new era of development.
