He further linked the initiative to the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts to strengthen grassroots security and support the creation of a state police structure. According to Oyekan, such a structure would improve intelligence systems, reduce response times, and bring policing closer to the people. He commended the participating agencies for their professionalism and coordination during the raid.
Oyekan also expressed gratitude to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his Deputy Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and Commissioner for Special Duties Gbenga Oyerinde for their consistent support of security operations. He affirmed that similar joint operations would continue in strategic locations across Lagos to deter crime and boost public confidence in safety.
The operation received support from the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) team and an armed detachment of the Nigeria Police Force. It was facilitated by Kunle Fagbemi, Chief Security Officer to the Lagos State Governor. The successful execution underscores the agency’s capability to conduct large-scale security interventions with minimal disruption to daily life.
As Lagos continues to grapple with rising insecurity, this operation signals a proactive stance by state authorities to reclaim public spaces and restore order. The continued presence of security forces in high-risk zones may serve as a deterrent to potential offenders, contributing to long-term peace and stability in the state.
