Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected thugs and rescued three victims following a violent attack in Bununu Town, Ningi Local Government Area, on Monday, August 17, 2026. The incident occurred during a routine patrol when police operatives spotted a group of hoodlums assaulting three residents. Quick intervention by the patrol team led to the arrest of two suspects and the rescue of the injured victims, who were later taken to the General Hospital in Bununu for medical treatment.
The victims, aged 28, 30, and 31, are all male residents of Bununu Town and sustained injuries to their heads and other body parts during the assault. They are currently reported to be in stable condition after receiving medical attention at the hospital. The police also recovered dangerous weapons from the suspects, including a sharp knife and a sharp-edged animal horn locally known as “kaho,” which was used in the attack.
The two suspects apprehended have been identified as Ibrahim Hassan, 23, and Bilal Hassan, 22, both residents of Bununu Town. According to the command, other members of the gang fled the scene upon seeing the police. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the attack, and a thorough investigation has since commenced. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the details in a statement released by the command.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has directed that the case be investigated comprehensively with the aim of prosecuting the suspects in court. He emphasized that the police will not tolerate thuggery, hooliganism, or any act of violence that threatens public peace and safety in Bauchi State. In his statement, he warned that such criminal activities would be met with firm action.
To ensure lasting peace in the area, additional security personnel have been deployed to Bununu Town to monitor developments and prevent further breakdowns in law and order. The police have also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The situation in Bununu is now under control, and normalcy has been restored. This incident highlights the importance of community cooperation and swift police response in curbing crime and maintaining public safety across Nigeria.
