A 33-year-old man, Najamu Aminu, was found brutally slaughtered in his room in the Gwallaga area of Bauchi metropolis on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, sparking widespread fear and raising serious concerns about the police investigation into the killing. The body was discovered in a pool of blood, with residents suspecting that the victim was attacked while asleep. The gruesome nature of the crime has left the community in shock and demanding swift justice.
The incident was reported to the Township Police Division, commonly known as “A Division,” where officers recovered the body and later released it to the family for burial. However, the Organisation for African Child Development and Human Rights Protection has raised alarms over the handling of the case. The group’s Team Lead, Alkasim Muhammad, told journalists that no suspect had been arrested or questioned days after the murder. He also criticized the police for not returning to the crime scene to interview witnesses or collect additional evidence.
Muhammad questioned why the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) released the body for burial within just three hours of recovery, without conducting a proper investigation. He emphasized that homicide cases should be transferred immediately to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough probe, not handled at the divisional level. He further asked why the DPO did not revisit the scene to gather more evidence, calling for a special investigation team to be formed.
The group is urging the Commissioner of Police to order an autopsy on the deceased, arrest those linked to the killing, and investigate the conduct of the DPO. In response, the Bauchi State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Abubakar, issued a statement on Saturday confirming that the case had been transferred to the SCID for discreet and thorough investigation. He explained that preliminary investigations began at the Township Division before the case was escalated to the higher investigative unit.
According to Abubakar, operatives of the SCID have taken over the matter and are conducting an in-depth probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and identify all persons involved. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has assured the public that the command will leave no stone unturned in delivering justice. The police are appealing to anyone with information that could aid the investigation to come forward and support the ongoing efforts.
As the investigation continues, residents remain anxious, hoping for transparency and swift action from law enforcement. The case has become a test of the police’s commitment to justice and public safety in Bauchi State.
