The Nigerian Army has intensified its offensive against bandits in Bauchi State, destroying key criminal strongholds including the notorious Azuge and Hari camps, marking a significant blow to insecurity in the region. Troops from the 33 Artillery Brigade, in coordination with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), launched a major clearance operation in the Dajin Madam Forest, resulting in the neutralization of several bandits and the capture of 19 family members—six women and 13 children—believed to be linked to the criminal network. The operation also led to the destruction of multiple motorcycles used by bandits to facilitate their movements, further crippling their operational capacity.
Security forces recovered a cache of illicit materials during the operation, including an AK-47 magazine, packs of tramadol, and both police and military uniforms. The discovery of uniforms suggests that the bandits were attempting to impersonate security personnel, a tactic often used to instill fear and evade detection. Two horses were also seized, indicating the use of traditional means of transportation in remote areas to avoid surveillance. These findings underscore the sophisticated and deceptive methods employed by criminal elements in the region.
Following the successful operation in Dajin Madam Forest, troops established a firm presence in the area to consolidate gains and prevent any regrouping by fleeing bandits. In a follow-up mission in Mainamaji, military personnel conducted a clearance operation to capitalize on recent airstrikes targeting bandit hideouts. The Army confirmed that no contact was made during this operation, signaling a weakening of bandit presence due to sustained military pressure and improved intelligence gathering.
The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining relentless pressure on criminal elements across Bauchi and other affected states. Authorities urge the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid in the disruption of bandit activities. The military’s coordinated efforts, combined with strategic intelligence and joint operations, are seen as critical steps toward restoring lasting peace and security in the region.
As operations continue, the Nigerian Army remains focused on dismantling bandit networks, securing vulnerable communities, and ensuring that criminal enclaves are permanently neutralized. The success in Bauchi serves as a clear message to other criminal groups that the military is determined to reclaim territory and protect civilians.
