The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced the launch of its nomination forms for the 2027 general elections, with sales beginning on April 25, 2027. The ruling party revealed the schedule during its 186th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, confirming key dates and costs for candidates aspiring to run for various offices. Presidential candidates will be required to purchase nomination forms for N70 million, while expression of interest forms are priced at N30 million. These figures were disclosed by APC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Lai Meseko, who emphasized that the process is open to all party members without restriction.
The sale of nomination forms will run from April 25 to May 2, with a final submission deadline set for May 4. Following this, the party will conduct screening processes for candidates seeking legislative and governorship positions from May 6 to May 8. Presidential aspirants will undergo screening on May 9, marking the start of the formal vetting phase. The primary elections will then proceed in a structured sequence: House of Representatives primaries are scheduled for May 15, Senate primaries for May 18, and State Assembly primaries for May 20.
Governorship primaries are set for May 21, with the presidential primary election taking place on May 23. This timeline reflects the APC’s commitment to an organized and transparent internal selection process ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party has also clarified that the nomination process will operate under a hybrid model, combining direct and consensus primaries. In cases where aspirants reach a mutual agreement, the consensus route will be adopted. However, if any candidate objects, the process will revert to direct primaries to ensure fairness and inclusivity.
Meseko firmly rejected claims that the nomination forms would be restricted to a select group of individuals. He stressed that the forms are available to every APC member who intends to contest in the upcoming elections. “This method serves as a means for aspirants seeking offices under the APC are open. Forms are available for every member who is running in the election. This method has no limitations or restrictions,” he stated. He added that the hybrid model ensures flexibility and accommodates both negotiated and competitive approaches to candidate selection.
The APC has submitted its updated schedule to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), aligning its internal processes with national electoral timelines. This announcement marks a significant step in Nigeria’s political calendar as parties begin preparations for the next general elections. With clear dates and transparent procedures in place, the APC aims to maintain credibility and public confidence in its leadership selection process. As the 2027 elections draw nearer, the party’s structured approach sets the stage for a competitive and orderly political contest across the country.
