The Kogi State Government has successfully rescued four individuals who were kidnapped during a recent attack in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area, marking a significant victory in the state’s ongoing fight against insecurity. The rescue operation, launched immediately after the incident, involved a coordinated effort by multiple security agencies under the directive of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. The victims—comprising a school principal, a NECO official, and two students—were recovered safely and are currently undergoing medical checks and debriefing by security operatives.
Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, disclosed the development in a statement released on Thursday. He emphasized that Governor Ododo swiftly ordered the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara, rtd, to lead a joint rescue mission. The operation included the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and local vigilante groups, all working in unison to locate and free the captives.
According to Fanwo, security forces conducted a saturation sweep of the forested area where the kidnappers had taken the victims. The intense pressure and overwhelming presence of heavily armed personnel forced the abductors to abandon their captives and flee. The rescue came just hours after the Governor, while inspecting newly procured Armoured Personnel Carriers, assured the public that all possible measures were being taken to secure the release of the victims.
The Commissioner praised the professionalism and bravery of all security personnel involved, highlighting the success as a clear example of effective inter-agency collaboration. He noted that the operation underscores the state’s commitment to ensuring justice for all criminals who target its citizens. “Our resolve is clear: anyone who chooses the path of crime in Kogi State will face the full weight of the law,” Fanwo stated.
Security operatives remain in the forest to continue tracking down the kidnappers, ensuring no suspect escapes justice. The Kogi State Government also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his continued support in strengthening the state’s security infrastructure. The rescue operation has been hailed as a major step forward in restoring peace and confidence in the region, and authorities remain vigilant against future threats.
