Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has reaffirmed the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party of choice for the people of the state, following the mass defection of approximately 4,000 members from various political parties into the ruling party in Taura Local Government Area. The event, held on a vibrant Saturday, featured a grand reception for the new members and the commissioning of a new APC secretariat in Taura. The defectors were led by Hon. Safiyanu Ubale Taura, a former state party chairman and four-time member of the House of Representatives, who had previously been a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Namadi emphasized that the influx of new members was a clear sign of the APC’s rising popularity and widespread acceptance across Jigawa State. He noted that many of the defectors were influential figures in opposition politics within Taura and Ringim Local Government Areas, and their decision to join the APC would significantly strengthen the party’s grassroots presence. “This development clearly shows that the APC remains the party of choice for the people of Jigawa. The calibre of individuals we have received today represents the core of political mobilisation in Taura and Ringim,” the governor stated.
Namadi also highlighted that the number of new entrants into the APC far exceeded any recent departures from the party, underscoring the party’s growing momentum across all 27 local government areas in the state. He assured the defectors of fair treatment, inclusive leadership, and integrity in governance, pledging to uphold the trust placed in his administration. “We promise to treat you with fairness, to lead with integrity, and to uphold the trust you have placed in us,” he said.
The APC State Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Garba M.K., attributed the surge in defections to Governor Namadi’s leadership style and the visible development projects being implemented across the state. He described the wave of new members as unprecedented and a testament to the party’s growing influence. In his address, Hon. Safiyanu Ubale Taura pledged full loyalty to the APC and committed his supporters to working tirelessly for the party’s success in upcoming elections.
The event marked a significant political shift in Jigawa, with the APC consolidating its position as the dominant political force. As the party continues to attract key figures from rival parties, its influence in both rural and urban areas is expected to deepen, setting the stage for a strong electoral performance in future elections.
