Rivers 2027: Wikes Camp Clarifies No Plans to Hijack Rivers State Politics

The Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, has firmly denied allegations that it is orchestrating a state capture against the people of the state. In a recent interview on Arise Television, Chibuike Ikenga, the coalition’s spokesman, dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated. He emphasized that the coalition’s primary goal is to advance the welfare of Rivers citizens through transparent governance, accountability, and credible electoral processes.

Ikenga highlighted that the coalition’s growing support includes participation from other political parties, such as the Labour Party, which recently joined the movement. This development, he noted, demonstrates the broad-based nature of the coalition and its commitment to inclusive leadership for the benefit of all Rivers people. “You saw what has happened recently. You also saw yesterday video trending online where the Labour Party had also come to join in the Rainbow Coalition,” Ikenga stated, underscoring the coalition’s expanding influence.

He further explained that the coalition was formed to counter what it perceives as poor governance and electoral malpractices under the current administration. According to Ikenga, the group is not seeking to undermine democratic processes but rather to ensure that elections in Rivers State are free, fair, and credible. “This shows the leadership that the Minister of the FCT is putting together in the larger interest of the Rivers people,” he added, reinforcing the coalition’s mission.

Ikenga stressed that the coalition members are all natives of Rivers State and have no intention of imposing external control or manipulating state affairs. “We are all Rivers people. We are interested in the interests of Rivers State,” he said. He outlined that these interests include good governance, transparency, and accountability—values they believe have been neglected in recent years.

The coalition’s stance comes amid heightened political activity in Rivers State, with various groups advocating for change ahead of upcoming elections. Critics have accused the Rainbow Coalition of being a power grab, but Ikenga insisted that their actions are rooted in public service and civic responsibility. He condemned what he described as “shenanigans” by current leaders and called for a return to ethical governance.

As the political landscape in Rivers State continues to evolve, the Rainbow Coalition remains focused on mobilizing support for reforms that prioritize the people’s needs. The group’s efforts are likely to play a significant role in shaping the state’s political future, especially as more parties align with its vision.
