A 45-year-old man, Adeniyi Benjamin, has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for operating an unlicensed medical facility and treating patients without proper medical qualifications or a licence to practise. The arrest took place on October 2, 2026, at around 3 p.m., when operatives from the Command Monitoring Unit raided his clinic, Life Is Good Hospital, located in the Olodo area of Ibadan. The suspect was apprehended while actively attending to patients and administering treatments, particularly in the field of fertility care, despite having no certification as a medical doctor.
DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Wednesday. He said the operation followed credible intelligence gathered by police regarding Benjamin’s illegal medical activities. During the raid, officers recovered several medical instruments including two weighing scales, four Quantum Magnetic Resonance Body Analysers, one stethoscope, and a large carton containing assorted medicines and specimen bottles. These items were seized as evidence in connection with the suspect’s alleged unlawful practice.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Benjamin admitted to running the unlicensed clinic for approximately seven years. He confessed to offering fertility-related treatments to patients, a sensitive area of healthcare that requires rigorous training and certification. His actions have raised serious concerns among authorities about public health risks posed by unqualified practitioners, especially in critical medical domains like reproductive health.
The police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of Benjamin’s operations and whether other individuals were involved in the management or functioning of the facility. As part of their commitment to public safety, the command stated it will take appropriate legal action based on findings from the probe. Authorities also urged members of the public to exercise caution and verify the professional credentials of anyone offering medical services before seeking treatment.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious medical facilities or individuals claiming to be doctors without verifiable qualifications to the police or relevant regulatory bodies. The Oyo Police Command reiterated its dedication to safeguarding lives and property, pledging continued collaboration with health regulators and the public to prevent further endangerment of citizens’ health. This arrest underscores growing efforts to crack down on quackery and protect Nigerians from unregulated medical practices.
