The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted a precision strike against a known hideout of kidnappers in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State, disrupting criminal activities and supporting ground operations. The operation, carried out on Wednesday, involved close air support provided by NAF aircraft to surface forces engaged in targeting suspected kidnappers near the Enugu–Benue boundary. According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at the NAF Headquarters, the mission was successful in weakening the operational capacity of the criminal elements.
Ejodame explained that the air support played a critical role in enabling surface troops to advance safely into the area, where kidnappers have been increasingly active. The strike not only disrupted ongoing criminal plans but also sent a strong message of deterrence to other potential offenders. He emphasized that the NAF remains fully committed to protecting communities across Nigeria through coordinated air and ground operations.
Following the completion of the mission, the pilot executing the sortie exercised professional judgment by conducting a precautionary landing approximately 10 nautical miles from the base. This action was taken in line with standard operational and safety protocols after combat missions. The helicopter later returned safely to its home base without incident, confirming the smooth execution of the entire operation.
The NAF’s intervention highlights its growing role in combating insecurity in Nigeria’s northern and central regions, where kidnapping and banditry have become persistent threats. By integrating air power with ground forces, the military aims to reduce the freedom of movement for criminal networks and restore public confidence. Ejodame reiterated that such operations are part of a broader strategy to ensure national security and protect civilians.
This latest airstrike adds to a series of recent NAF operations in Benue and surrounding states, demonstrating sustained pressure on criminal elements. The force continues to leverage its aerial capabilities to respond swiftly to emerging threats. With continued coordination between air and ground units, the NAF is enhancing its ability to neutralize threats before they escalate.
The successful outcome underscores the NAF’s continued resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of action and support efforts to restore safety and security to affected communities. As insecurity remains a top concern for Nigerians, the NAF’s proactive measures signal a long-term commitment to stabilizing vulnerable regions.
