Nollywood has etched its name in global entertainment history as the crime thriller Black Market officially became the most-attended single-location film screening in the world, setting a new Guinness World Record on Saturday, 26th September 2026. Over 51,000 moviegoers packed Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos for the outdoor premiere, surpassing the previous record of 43,624 set in 2015 by the Filipino film Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena. The event marked a monumental moment for Nigerian cinema, showcasing the industry’s growing global influence and massive public appeal.
The historic screening drew a mix of political leaders, cultural icons, and top Nollywood talents. Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture Toke Benson were among the dignitaries present, underscoring the significance of the occasion. The cast, including Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada, Uzor Arukwe, Ibrahim Yekini (Itele D Icon), Susan Pwajok, Teniola Aladese, Taye Arimoro, and Mike Afolarin, joined fans and stakeholders to celebrate the achievement.
Black Market tells the gripping story of market women who run a cross-border fuel-smuggling operation, only to face deadly consequences when rival gangs enter their world. Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman stars as Zimuzo, Scarlet Gomez portrays Aramide, and Omowunmi Dada plays Adesua. The ensemble cast also features Tomiwa Tegbe, Andrew Yaw Bunting, Shamz Garuba, and Adeoluwa Akintoba, delivering powerful performances that elevate the film’s intense narrative.
