Troops Rescue Six Kidnapped Victims in Plateau State

Six kidnapped victims have been successfully rescued by troops of Sector 2, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), in separate counter-terrorism operations conducted in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The military intervention came after intelligence reports indicated the movement of suspected terrorists toward vulnerable communities, prompting swift responses from deployed forces. In both encounters, the terrorists abandoned their captives and fled into the bush, allowing security personnel to recover the hostages unharmed.

At approximately noon, troops stationed at Kukawa received critical information about a group of armed suspects heading towards Wanka Village. Responding immediately, the soldiers intercepted the terrorists, who were riding motorcycles, forcing them to scatter into the forest. During a subsequent sweep of the area, two young boys were found abandoned and in distress. Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed their identities as 14-year-old Muhammed Jibo and 12-year-old Muhammed Yahaya. According to the victims, they had been abducted on September 6, 2026, while traveling to meet their father at a farm in Dadin Kowa Village, located in Kanam Local Government Area.

In a parallel operation earlier that day, around 11 am, troops on a fighting patrol near Yuli Village also engaged a group of suspected terrorists. The encounter led to the abandonment of four adult male captives, who were later recovered by the military. Makama identified the rescued individuals as Yakubu Yahaya, 25; Yahuza Dapji, 22; Yahaya Jibo, 20; and Sani Abubakar, 18—all residents of Dadin Kowa Village in Kanam LGA. These victims were handed over to the Village Head of Yuli for medical evaluation and further support, ensuring they receive necessary care and protection.

The successful rescue missions highlight the ongoing efforts by OPEP to combat terrorism and kidnapping in Plateau State’s high-risk zones. The operations underscore the importance of timely intelligence and rapid response by security agencies in preventing loss of life and restoring community confidence. With multiple kidnappings reported across the region in recent months, these rescues serve as a significant morale boost for affected families and local communities.

As security forces continue to intensify surveillance and patrols, especially in border villages and rural farming areas, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. The rescue of these six individuals marks a crucial step in the broader fight against insecurity in the North Central region. Moving forward, sustained military presence and community cooperation will be essential in preventing future abductions and ensuring lasting peace.
