Troops Rescue Three Kidnap Victims Following Terrorist Attack in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully rescued three kidnapped victims following a terrorist attack on a commercial vehicle along the Anka–Gummi road in Zamfara State. The rescue operation took place after security forces received intelligence about the abduction and swiftly responded to the scene. The incident occurred in Anka Local Government Area, a region frequently affected by banditry and terrorism in northern Nigeria.

The troops were conducting routine patrols when they got information that terrorists had ambushed a commercial vehicle on the highway. Acting immediately, the soldiers moved to the location and engaged the attackers in a brief but intense encounter. During the confrontation, the terrorists fled into the surrounding bush, leaving behind their captives and abandoning key equipment.

Among the items recovered by the military was a handheld communication radio, which is believed to have been left behind by the fleeing assailants. This device could provide critical intelligence for ongoing investigations and help track down the perpetrators. The rescued victims are currently undergoing medical assessment and care at a nearby facility before being reunited with their families, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.

Makama confirmed that the operation was carried out efficiently, highlighting the preparedness and responsiveness of the troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA. He noted that the security forces are now intensifying search and recovery efforts in the area to locate the hijacked vehicle and apprehend those responsible. The military has also increased patrols along the Anka–Gummi corridor to ensure the safety of motorists and prevent further attacks on civilians.

This development comes amid rising concerns over insecurity in Zamfara State, where kidnapping and armed robbery remain persistent threats. The Anka–Gummi route is a vital transport link connecting several local government areas, making its security essential for both economic activity and civilian movement. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

With this successful rescue, the Nigerian military continues to demonstrate its commitment to protecting lives and restoring peace in troubled regions. The operation underscores the importance of coordinated surveillance and rapid response in countering criminal networks operating in remote areas. As security forces maintain pressure on insurgents, communities across Zamfara and neighboring states can hope for improved safety and stability in the coming weeks.
