The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-East Zonal Working Committee has urged the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector-General of Police, and other security agencies to investigate the conduct of security operatives in the region, with particular focus on the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State. The call comes amid growing concerns over alleged inaction by security forces despite repeated petitions from opposition parties. In a statement issued by Mike Ahumibe, National Vice Chairman for the South-East Zone, the committee expressed deep dissatisfaction with the current state of security management in the area.
Ahumibe stated that the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State has failed to act proactively in response to multiple complaints raised by opposition groups. He emphasized that such conduct does not meet the expected standards of a professional law enforcement officer. “The committee seriously implores the office of the National Security Adviser, Director of the Department of State Services, all security agencies and indeed the Inspector-General of Police to show a special interest in the activities of our security agencies in the South-East and conduct a check on the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State,” the statement read.
The PDP also highlighted its confidence in winning the 2027 general elections, describing the opportunity as a “low hanging fruit” that only requires strategic effort to secure. The party insists that opposition groups must be allowed to campaign freely without intimidation, manipulation, or interference from any quarter. It stressed that fair electoral processes are essential for democratic growth and public trust in Nigeria’s political system.
In addition to its security concerns, the PDP commended Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his dynamic leadership and significant contributions to the party’s resurgence. The party sees Wike’s influence as a key factor in strengthening the PDP’s national presence and organizational capacity. His role in policy implementation and party mobilization has been acknowledged as pivotal in recent political developments.
The demand for an investigation into the Ebonyi State police commissioner underscores broader anxieties about governance and accountability within Nigeria’s security apparatus.
