The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has urged immediate and decisive action to address the escalating insecurity in Rabah Local Government Area, following fresh attacks that left at least 10 people dead and about 40 others abducted. In a statement released by his media aide, Aminu Abdullahi, on Tuesday, Dan’iya condemned the violent raids carried out by suspected bandits on Tofa community over the weekend. He expressed deep concern over the growing pattern of attacks targeting rural communities, warning that the government’s response has failed to match the severity of the crisis.
Dan’iya questioned how many more lives must be lost before state authorities acknowledge that Sokoto is facing a serious security emergency. He pointed to the stark contrast between official assurances of safety and the reality faced by residents who live in constant fear of nighttime assaults. The ADC candidate emphasized that repeated attacks have exposed critical gaps in the government’s ability to protect its citizens, especially in remote and vulnerable areas like Rabah.
He called on the Sokoto State Government to deploy more security personnel, enhance intelligence gathering, and establish rapid response mechanisms to prevent future attacks. “The people of Rabah do not need another press statement,” Dan’iya said. “They need security personnel, intelligence, rapid response, and the confidence to sleep in their homes without fearing that armed men will arrive in the night.” His remarks underscored the urgent need for tangible, on-the-ground solutions rather than public declarations.
Dan’iya also stressed the importance of stronger coordination and accountability among security agencies operating in the state. He argued that the scale and frequency of attacks demand a sustained, well-organized response from both state and federal authorities. “When citizens are being killed and abducted, demanding accountability is not politicising insecurity,” he stated. “When communities are attacked repeatedly, asking government to protect them is not politics.”
He urged the Federal Government, the Sokoto State Government, and all security agencies to intensify intelligence-led operations aimed at rescuing abducted individuals, apprehending perpetrators, and maintaining a permanent security presence in high-risk areas. Dan’iya’s call comes amid rising alarm over the worsening security situation in northern Nigeria, where banditry and kidnapping have become persistent threats to civilian life.
As Sokoto State grapples with this humanitarian and security crisis, Dan’iya’s appeal reflects growing public frustration and the urgent need for coordinated, effective intervention to restore peace and stability to affected communities.
