The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Labour Party presidential running mate, to step aside and respect Peter Obi’s decision to choose Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election. Theo Abu Agada, Director of New Media and Strategic Communications for the NDC, made the appeal in a public statement shared on X, urging Baba-Ahmed to move on from what he described as ongoing attacks and undermining of Kwankwaso’s candidacy.
Agada emphasized that Peter Obi’s choice of Kwankwaso was both idealistic and pragmatic, reflecting a strategic vision for Nigeria’s future. He noted that since the announcement, Baba-Ahmed has been consistently criticizing the selection across various platforms, which the NDC views as unhelpful and disrespectful to the party’s internal process. According to Agada, the NDC remains focused on its mission to improve the lives of Nigerians, promising better living standards than what is currently being delivered by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The NDC official stressed that the party’s campaign for 2027 is built on a foundation of unity and purpose, with Obi at the helm and Kwankwaso as his running mate. He urged Nigerians to support all NDC candidates in the upcoming elections, highlighting the party’s commitment to economic reform, job creation, and national development. Agada reiterated that the NDC’s platform is designed to address the pressing challenges facing the country, including inflation, unemployment, and insecurity.
In his message, Agada also reminded the public that political decisions within parties must be respected, especially when they are made after careful consideration and consultation. He stated that continued opposition to the chosen vice-presidential candidate only serves to divide the electorate and weaken the broader goal of bringing change to Nigeria. The NDC, he said, will not tolerate actions that undermine its credibility or distract from its agenda.
