Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspects following the viral circulation of a video showing alleged miscreants harassing motorists on a major road in Lagos. The incident, which sparked public concern, involved individuals attempting to damage the side mirror of a vehicle, prompting swift action from law enforcement. The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrests in a statement shared on her X handle on Thursday, emphasizing that police had already been monitoring such criminal activities before the video went viral.
The footage, which circulated widely on social media, captured the suspected culprits engaging in reckless and threatening behavior towards drivers. This raised alarm among residents and commuters who expressed fear for their safety on the roads. In response, the police acted quickly, deploying officers to the area and apprehending six individuals linked to the incident. According to SP Adebisi, the arrests were made along the same stretch of road where the video was recorded, underscoring the command’s proactive approach to crime prevention.
She stated that the police had been actively tracking groups involved in similar acts of harassment and vandalism even before the video gained public attention. “The command wishes to clarify that it had already been on the lookout for, and taking proactive measures against, miscreants involved in such activities even before the said video surfaced online,” Adebisi said. She added that an investigation is currently ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement and to identify any other accomplices.
To prevent future occurrences, additional police officers have been deployed to the area to enhance surveillance and deter criminal elements. The increased presence is aimed at ensuring the safety of motorists and pedestrians alike. SP Adebisi also commended members of the public for promptly reporting the incident, noting that such civic engagement plays a crucial role in supporting police operations. She urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to aid in the fight against crime.
The arrest of the six suspects reflects the Lagos State Police Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the state. By acting swiftly and transparently, the command aims to restore confidence among citizens and ensure safer roads for all. As investigations continue, authorities remain focused on dismantling criminal networks and preventing further incidents of road harassment.
