Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux with black bonnet, registration number NYA 399 AA, which was reported missing on 6 August 2026 along Udo Eduok Street, off Aka Road in Uyo. The vehicle was recovered after police operatives intercepted the suspects who fled upon sighting law enforcement. The suspects abandoned the car on a non-motorable road and escaped into the bush, evading immediate arrest. DSP Timfon John, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the recovery in a statement issued in Uyo on Monday.
The owner of the vehicle, identified as Mr. Reginald, was promptly contacted and positively identified the recovered Hilux as his property. Police are currently intensifying efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects. The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in the state, particularly concerning vehicle theft and armed criminal activities. In another development, police operatives conducted a stop-and-search operation along Abak Road near the Federal Secretariat in Uyo at approximately 2330 hours on the same day. During the operation, they arrested Emmanuel Emmanson, a 21-year-old male from Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. Three live cartridges were recovered from him during the arrest. According to DSP Timfon John, preliminary investigations revealed that Emmanson confessed to being a member of the Black Axe Confraternity.
Emmanson admitted that the cartridges were intended for use in a cult initiation ceremony planned to take place in a bush area. The suspect is currently in custody as authorities continue their investigation. Police are also working diligently to identify and apprehend other members linked to the suspected unlawful group. This arrest highlights the continued presence of cult-related activities in the state and the police’s resolve to dismantle such networks.
