Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has called on first-term governors in the zone to intensify their performance to secure re-election and ensure the party retains control of all six states in the region. The forum made this appeal during a stakeholders’ consultative meeting held in Abuja on Sunday, emphasizing that strong governance will directly influence electoral outcomes. The statement was issued by the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, following the second quarter assessment of governance in the zone.
The first-term governors under scrutiny include Ahmed Ododo of Kogi, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Mohammad Bago of Niger, and Caleb Muftwang of Plateau. Meanwhile, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa are completing their second terms and will not be seeking re-election in 2027. The North-Central APC Forum stressed that improved delivery of services and visible progress in key sectors will determine whether these governors win renewed mandates.
The Forum urged governors to lead by example in delivering dividends of democracy, particularly in security, economic growth, agriculture, education, youth and women empowerment, and overall citizen welfare. It noted that the North-Central zone was the first in Nigeria to fall entirely under the control of a single political party—the APC—and expressed determination to maintain that status after the 2027 elections.
In recognition of outstanding performance, the Forum commended Governors Mohammad Bago of Niger and Caleb Muftwang of Plateau for their transformative projects. In Niger State, Bago’s administration has completed a 1,000km road network, constructed flyovers, launched a 500-hectare solar farm and industrial park in Diko/Sabon Wuse, expanded Minna’s urban renewal program, and developed a 500-unit housing estate in Kontagora. Similarly, Muftwang’s government in Plateau has executed the 19.7km Mangu Bypass, initiated the Plateau Potato Value Chain Project, and renovated key tourism and sports facilities like the Hill Station Hotel and Rwang Pam Township Stadium.
Both administrations have also recorded improvements in security and economic empowerment, according to the Forum, which believes these achievements will bolster APC’s chances in the upcoming polls. While acknowledging progress by other first-term governors, the Forum urged them to redouble efforts as election day approaches. It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the North-Central remains the party’s strongest geopolitical zone.
The Forum also reiterated its pledge to deliver six million votes to President Bola Tinubu in 2027—a promise made in December 2024 when it became the first political body to endorse his re-election bid. With current performance trends and ongoing development projects, the Forum remains confident that the North-Central will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the APC’s national electoral success.
