Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has officially confirmed Engr. Aminu Usman Gumel as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, ending months of speculation about a potential change in the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket. The announcement was made during a meeting with a delegation from the Gumel Emirate at the Government House in Dutse, where the governor praised his deputy’s competence, professionalism, loyalty, and significant contributions to the success of his administration. Namadi emphasized that Gumel’s consistent commitment to the state’s development agenda made him the ideal choice to continue serving alongside him.
The confirmation comes amid growing political speculation that the governor might replace his deputy ahead of the 2027 elections. These rumours were partly fueled by perceptions that Gumel is closely associated with former Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, who had a strained relationship with Namadi until a recent reconciliation. However, the governor’s public endorsement of Gumel has now silenced these speculations and reinforced party unity within the APC in Jigawa.
In his remarks, Governor Namadi highlighted that Gumel’s dedication to public service and his role in advancing key development projects in the state were key factors in his decision. He stressed that the deputy governor had proven himself as a reliable and capable partner in governance, making him deserving of another term in the state’s leadership structure. The governor’s choice is seen as a strategic move to maintain continuity and stability in the administration’s ongoing projects.
Engr. Aminu Usman Gumel, in response, expressed deep gratitude to Governor Namadi and the APC leadership for the trust placed in him. He acknowledged that there are many qualified individuals who could have been chosen but said he was humbled by the governor’s decision. “I am aware that there are many people who are even more qualified than I am for this opportunity. However, in his wisdom, the Governor found me worthy of serving as his running mate. This is a great honour and favour,” Gumel stated.
He further pledged unwavering loyalty and commitment to supporting the governor in achieving the administration’s developmental goals. Gumel emphasized his dedication to ensuring the success of the current government and the continued progress of Jigawa State. His remarks were met with support from party members and stakeholders who view the pairing as a sign of political maturity and cohesion.
This confirmation strengthens the APC’s position in Jigawa as the party prepares for the 2027 elections, with both leaders now focused on consolidating their campaign and delivering on their promises to the people. The decision also sends a clear message of unity and continuity in governance, setting the tone for the upcoming electoral cycle.
