Osun Police Launch Investigation into Viral Ibuaje Video Incident

The Osun State Police Command has launched a full investigation into a viral TikTok video that sparked public concern over a building in the Ibuaje Community of Osogbo, following allegations made by a local resident. The video, posted by Ajibola Yetunde Aramide, showed her knocking on the gate of a property on Oluwatosin Alabi Street in Odofin Estate, claiming she had not seen the owner—a community member—for a long time. She stated that the Holy Spirit had prompted her to check on the resident, and she recorded the compound and its surroundings before sharing the footage online. The video quickly gained traction, prompting widespread attention and raising questions about privacy and public safety.

In a statement released on Saturday by DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the command confirmed that it had taken the matter seriously and immediately dispatched officers to the location. The investigation revealed that the occupants of the building were the wife of the property owner and a tenant, both of whom were accounted for and living peacefully in the premises. The police also invited the Chairman and Secretary of the Abere-sise Community, along with a representative of the traditional ruler, to verify the claims made in the videos. Community leaders confirmed that Aramide and her husband reside in Abere-sise and that there was no truth to the allegations of suspicious activity or missing persons.

Further findings showed that Aramide’s home is in Abere-sise, while the building in question is located in Ibuaje, highlighting a geographical discrepancy in her claims. The police noted that the videos raised serious concerns under the Cybercrimes Act, particularly regarding invasion of privacy and the potential for spreading misinformation. As a result, Aramide acknowledged the consequences of her actions, removed the videos from her TikTok account, and issued a public apology to the property owner and the wider public.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, urged residents of Osun State to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities, assuring them that a thorough investigation is underway. He also called on residents of Ibuaje and nearby areas to come forward with any relevant information to assist in the probe. The police emphasized the importance of responsible social media use and the need to verify facts before sharing content that could lead to public panic or legal consequences. This incident serves as a reminder of the growing role of digital platforms in shaping public discourse and the necessity for accountability in online behavior.
