Gbajabiamila Slams APC Government, Accuses It of Running Nigeria with Alarming Recklessness

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of running Nigeria with alarming recklessness, citing a series of scandals and governance failures under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. In a statement posted on its verified X handle on Sunday, the PDP reacted to the ongoing controversy involving Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, and Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). Adeyemi alleged that Gbajabiamila received N400 million through a proxy and demanded an additional N200 million to secure his appointment to the Presidential Economic Advisory Council. The Presidency has dismissed the claims, stating that Gbajabiamila does not have the authority to make appointments.

The PDP stated that the allegations and the government’s response have confirmed long-standing suspicions about the administration’s governance style. According to the party, the APC-led government has allowed nepotism and cronyism to replace merit, and impunity has become a standard practice, operating like a criminal enterprise. The PDP highlighted that Adeyemi’s claims include not only financial inducements but also ongoing demands for money while managing the office. The party criticized the Presidency’s response, led by Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, for not directly denying the allegations but instead labeling Adeyemi as an impostor and fraudster who allegedly forged his way into government.

The PDP pointed to a pattern of institutional failure under the current administration, citing multiple scandals that have embarrassed the Presidential Villa. These include the appointment of deceased individuals to government positions, the inclusion of undeserving persons on the presidential pardon list, and the N800 billion Progressive Governors Forum scandal. The party argued that these incidents reflect a troubling trend of poor governance and lack of accountability. The PDP emphasized that such reckless behavior undermines public trust and weakens Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

As the controversy continues to unfold, the PDP called for a thorough investigation into the allegations and urged the government to restore transparency and integrity in public office. The party warned that if these issues are not addressed, they could further erode confidence in the nation’s leadership. The situation remains under scrutiny, with Nigerians closely watching how the administration will respond to mounting criticism. The PDP’s statement adds to growing public concern over governance and accountability in Nigeria’s current political landscape.
