Police Arrest 28-Year-Old in Bauchi, Recover Stolen Motorcycle

Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man and recovered a stolen motorcycle during a routine patrol in Bauchi metropolis, marking a significant security achievement in the region. The suspect, identified as Hafiz Ahmad from Karofin Madaki, was apprehended on July 4, 2026, at around 12 pm by officers from the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, near Yelwan Kagadama. He was riding a black Jiacheng ladies’ motorcycle, which had no registration and was valued at N450,000.

According to SP Nafiu Habib, the command’s spokesperson, the suspect confessed to stealing the motorcycle from Unguwar Kusu in the Yelwa area of Bauchi. The confession came after officers conducted a thorough interrogation following the interception. The police noted that the suspect’s admission was consistent with the details of the reported theft, which had been brought to their attention by concerned residents.

Further investigation led the officers to the rightful owner, a 23-year-old man from the Federal Low-Cost Housing Estate, who was identified as Mr. Mohammed (surname withheld). The owner presented valid documentation proving his ownership of the motorcycle, including purchase receipts and identification papers. Upon verification, the motorcycle was formally handed back to him in a ceremony conducted by the police.

The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed that the suspect will be arraigned in court once preliminary investigations are completed. Authorities are also reviewing surveillance footage and gathering additional evidence to support the case. The swift recovery of the motorcycle and the arrest of the suspect have been hailed as a testament to the effectiveness of police patrols and community cooperation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers involved for their vigilance and quick response. He emphasized the importance of public participation in maintaining security, urging citizens to always ensure their vehicles are properly documented. “Members of the public should always ensure proper documentation of their vehicles and report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station,” the commissioner advised.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by Bauchi State Police to combat motorcycle theft and restore public confidence in law enforcement. As the police continue to intensify patrols and community engagement, residents are encouraged to remain alert and report any unusual activities. The recovery of the motorcycle is expected to serve as a deterrent to other potential offenders in the area.
