Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Alleged Abduction and Murder of Kwara Polytechnic Student

Kwara State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity in connection with the abduction and murder of Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, a 29-year-old student of Kwara State Polytechnic who went missing on June 4, 2026. The suspects were apprehended on June 29, 2026, during coordinated tactical operations by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) at identified cult hideouts within Ilorin metropolis. The arrest follows a thorough investigation launched by the police after the student’s disappearance sparked widespread concern among families and the academic community.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police on July 1, 2026. The suspects identified are Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, 23, also known as “Solar”; Bernard Kayode, 25, known as “KK”; and Owoyemi Bashiru, 27, referred to as “GDP.” All three are alleged members of the Eiye Confraternity, a cult group suspected of being behind the violent crime. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was abducted and later executed by members of the group.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their roles in the crime and admitted that Olaniyi was killed after being taken into their custody. The police stated that the criminal gang is believed to consist of 12 members, with nine others still at large. Authorities have intensified tactical operations to track down the remaining suspects, dismantle the cult network, and recover the victim’s body. The ongoing investigation has also revealed that the suspects in custody are providing critical information about other violent crimes allegedly committed by the group within Ilorin.

The Kwara State Police Command emphasized that the investigation is still active and that all individuals found culpable will face prosecution in accordance with the law. The arrest marks a significant step in addressing the rising threat of cult-related violence in the state. As security forces continue their efforts, communities are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The case underscores the need for stronger measures to combat cultism and protect students and citizens across Nigeria.
