Police Kill Two Suspected Kidnappers in Ogun Gun Duel, Recover N2.2M and Firearm

The Ogun State Police Command has successfully rescued an abducted victim, neutralised two suspected kidnappers, and recovered a single-barrel gun and N2.2 million in cash, marking a significant victory in the state’s ongoing fight against kidnapping. The operation, carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, followed the abduction of the victim on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in Ogbe Village, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area. The victim was released unharmed on June 18, 2026, after a swift and intelligence-driven response by police operatives.

Upon receiving the report, the command immediately activated its anti-kidnapping unit and deployed tactical and intelligence resources to locate the victim and apprehend the perpetrators. Through sustained surveillance and operational pressure, police were able to track the criminal gang and secure the victim’s release. The operation also led to the discovery of the gang’s hideout, where a fierce confrontation erupted when operatives arrived.

The kidnappers opened fire in an attempt to resist arrest and escape, resulting in the neutralisation of two suspects. Other members of the gang fled the scene with gunshot injuries. During the operation, police recovered a single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and a cash sum of N2.2 million, which is believed to be proceeds from criminal activities. These items were found during a search of one of the neutralised suspects and at the crime scene.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the police spokesperson, confirmed the details in a statement issued on Wednesday. He praised the professionalism and bravery of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, attributing the success to the intelligence-led strategies being implemented under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR. The CP commended the operatives for their courage and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eradicating kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

Ogun State remains determined to make its territory unwelcoming to criminal elements. The police have intensified efforts to track down the remaining fugitives, and investigations are ongoing. The command continues to strengthen partnerships with communities and deploy robust tactical operations to protect lives and property. This successful rescue underscores the effectiveness of proactive policing and serves as a warning to other criminal gangs operating in the region.
