Friends of Slain Ogun Broadcaster Urge Authorities to Bring Killers to Justice

The murder of retired broadcast journalist Kitan Oyesiku has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice, with friends and stakeholders urging the Ogun State government, police, and security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend her killers. Oyesiku, a respected figure in media circles who served with Ogun State Television (OGTV) before her retirement, was brutally murdered alongside her security guard at her home in Kobape, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The incident, which occurred in cold blood, has left the public in shock and demanding swift, transparent action from authorities.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed on Sunday that Oyesiku’s body was discovered inside her apartment, while her security guard’s remains were found within the security post. Babaseyi also noted that her vehicle, a Lexus RX300, was missing at the time, prompting immediate investigation. The State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, visited the crime scene on Monday for an on-the-spot assessment, inspecting the premises and receiving updates from detectives handling the case. He emphasized the command’s commitment to leaving no stone unturned in the investigation and ensuring that all those responsible are identified, arrested, and prosecuted.

In a significant development, police operatives recovered the missing Lexus RX300 during a night operation, marking a key breakthrough in the probe. The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that the investigation remains active, with all available resources deployed to track down the perpetrators. Despite these efforts, friends of the deceased, in a statement signed by Oluwaseun Boye on Wednesday, expressed deep sorrow over the senseless killing of a woman described as peace-loving, kind-hearted, and compassionate.

They stressed that Oyesiku’s murder must not be ignored or swept under the carpet, insisting that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. “Bringing the perpetrators to justice will reassure the public that no life is insignificant and that criminal acts of this nature will not go unpunished,” the statement read. The group also commended the Ogun State Police Command for the steps taken so far and urged them to sustain the momentum until every individual involved is brought to book.

The friends renewed their appeal to the public, urging anyone with information to come forward, no matter how small. They emphasized that even seemingly insignificant details could be the breakthrough investigators need to deliver justice for Kitan. As the investigation continues, the public remains hopeful that truth will prevail and that those responsible for this heinous crime will face the full force of the law.
