The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has firmly denied allegations that it sold 69 nomination forms to Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the 2027 general elections. National Chairman of the PRP, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, made this clarification during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Tuesday, dismissing the claims as “complete fiction.” He emphasized that the party does not sell nomination forms in Kano and that any such transaction would have been impossible under the party’s current procedures.
Baba-Ahmed reiterated the position of PRP Secretary Alhaji Musa Maigari, who had previously described the allegations as false. He stressed that Kwankwaso has no official affiliation with the PRP and did not purchase any nomination forms from the party. According to Baba-Ahmed, the individual who made the claim about the 69 forms is not recognized by the party, holds no official position, and lacks the authority to sell nomination forms on behalf of the PRP.
The PRP National Chairman explained that all nomination forms are sold from Abuja, the party’s headquarters, and not from state offices like Kano. He noted that candidates from Kano who wished to contest in the party’s primaries had to travel to Abuja to obtain their forms. These candidates completed the registration process and participated in primaries that concluded more than a month prior to the allegations surfacing.
Baba-Ahmed suggested that the claims might be politically motivated, possibly stemming from internal tensions or power struggles within Kano State. He maintained that the PRP’s processes are transparent and that the party has no intention of allowing any external figure to influence its internal affairs. The party’s leadership remains focused on preparing for the 2027 elections with integrity and adherence to its constitution.
The clarification comes amid heightened political activity across Nigeria as parties begin laying the groundwork for the next general elections. The PRP’s stance underscores its commitment to maintaining internal discipline and preventing any form of manipulation or external interference in its nomination processes. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the party’s leadership is urging the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unverified claims.
The PRP’s denial is expected to influence how other political actors and observers view Kwankwaso’s political alliances and ambitions, especially as he seeks to position himself for the 2027 election. The party’s leadership remains confident that its processes are above reproach and will continue to uphold democratic principles in its internal operations.
