Kano By-Election Exposes NDCs Weakness as Mushroom Political Movement, Says Gov Yusuf

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has hailed the outcome of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election as a clear indicator of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s strong position ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor emphasized that the high voter turnout and peaceful conduct of the election reflected continued public support for the APC and its governance policies.

The governor noted that the election was conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner, accurately representing the will of the electorate. He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its efficient organization of the poll and praised security agencies for ensuring peace and order throughout the electoral process. According to Yusuf, the successful conduct of the by-election has reinforced public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

He extended his congratulations to the APC candidate for winning the election and urged him to prioritize effective representation and service delivery for the people of the constituency. Yusuf stressed that the victory reaffirms the APC’s strength in Kano State and positions the party for greater success in future elections. The governor also pointed out that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) did not field a candidate in the by-election, which he described as evidence of the party’s lack of grassroots organization and political maturity.

Yusuf characterized the NDC as a “mushroom political movement” with no visible structure or support base, suggesting that the party’s absence was due to fear of defeat. He argued that the by-election exposed the weakness of opposition parties in the state and highlighted the growing popularity of the APC among Kano residents. The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering projects and programs that improve the lives of citizens across the state.

In addition, Yusuf congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda, for the party’s recent electoral successes in various by-elections nationwide. He expressed confidence that these victories are a testament to the APC’s enduring appeal and organizational strength. The governor’s remarks come at a time when political parties are intensifying preparations for the 2027 elections, and the outcome in Dawakin Kudu/Warawa is being closely watched as a barometer of voter sentiment.

As Kano State continues to witness political activity and electoral engagements, the by-election result may influence campaign strategies and voter mobilization efforts in the lead-up to the next general elections.
