Osun Guber: APP Issues Warning Against Electoral Technology Manipulation

The Action Peoples Party (APP) in Osun State has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strengthen the security of its technological systems ahead of the August 15 governorship election, warning against any form of manipulation that could undermine the credibility of the poll. In a statement issued on Sunday by the Osun APP Chairman, Odesola Oluseye Titus, the party called for immediate action to secure all technology-related aspects of the electoral process against fraud and unauthorised interference. The party emphasized the need for rigorous verification of the voters’ register, proper functioning of card readers, and stronger safeguards to prevent unauthorised access to electoral data.

Titus stressed that INEC must take proactive steps to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, particularly in light of reported technical irregularities during the recent Ekiti State governorship election. “We urge INEC to take immediate action to ensure that all the technological systems related to the electoral process are secured against fraudulent activities,” he said. He added that this includes ensuring the accuracy of the voters’ register, the reliability of card readers, and protection of electoral data from cyber threats or tampering.

The APP also demanded that INEC remain vigilant and responsive to any technical challenges that may arise during the election. The party insisted that every eligible voter must be allowed to participate freely and fairly, without fear of disenfranchisement or manipulation. “We call on INEC to uphold its responsibility to the citizens and ensure that the electoral process is transparent, credible, and free from any form of technical tampering,” the statement noted.

Residents of Osun State have expressed growing concern over the alleged technical irregularities observed in the Ekiti poll, which have raised questions about the reliability of electoral technology. The APP stated that these concerns are shared by many in Osun, who are closely watching how INEC prepares for the upcoming election. “The residents of Osun State have observed with increasing alarm the alleged technical irregularities that were reported during the recent Ekiti State Governorship Election,” the party said.

The APP made it clear that the people of Osun will not accept any attempt to manipulate the democratic process through technological means. “We want to emphasise unequivocally that the people of Osun State will not tolerate any form of technical rigging or manipulation that compromises the democratic process,” Titus declared. He warned that the party and its supporters will mobilise against any strategies aimed at disenfranchising voters or altering the election outcome.

The party expressed hope that INEC will provide clear assurances that the August 15 governorship election will be conducted with the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and fairness. As the election draws closer, the call for robust electoral security continues to grow, with political actors and citizens alike demanding a credible and trustworthy process. The outcome of this election will be closely watched, not only in Osun but across Nigeria, as a test of electoral resilience and public trust.
