Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Arrest Suspect in Kebbi State

The Kebbi State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapped woman and arrested one suspect in a coordinated security operation involving police, vigilantes, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF). The victim, Asmau Isah, was abducted on June 10 during a violent attack on her residence in Bayan Forestry, Birnin Kebbi. Seven armed men stormed the house, stole N220,000 and several mobile phones, before forcibly taking her away to an unknown location. The swift intervention by security forces led to her safe recovery and the arrest of Abubakar Siddi, one of the perpetrators.

Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, made the announcement on Wednesday during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, highlighting recent security achievements by the command. He confirmed that the rescue operation was carried out efficiently with support from local vigilante groups and JTF members, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in combating crime. Hadejia stated that while the victim was rescued unharmed, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the criminal gang involved in the abduction.

The police commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes through intelligence-led operations. He stressed that proactive surveillance, timely reporting, and cooperation with stakeholders remain key to maintaining peace and security in the state. Hadejia urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to security agencies, assuring them that all information provided would be handled with strict confidentiality.

He also emphasized that the Kebbi Police Command is fully dedicated to protecting the lives and property of all law-abiding citizens. The successful rescue of Asmau Isah is seen as a testament to the effectiveness of joint security efforts and the growing synergy between police and civilian groups. Authorities are now working to trace the other suspects and recover any stolen items. The incident has sparked renewed calls for heightened security measures in high-risk areas across the state.

This operation reflects broader efforts by the Nigerian police to reduce kidnapping cases, particularly in northern states where such crimes have been prevalent. The use of civilian JTF and vigilante groups has become a critical component in recent security strategies. As the investigation continues, residents are encouraged to stay alert and support security agencies in their mission to ensure lasting peace. The rescue of Asmau Isah serves as a reminder that coordinated action can yield positive results in the fight against crime.
