Bauchi PDP Candidate Vows to Block Bala Mohammeds Successor Plan

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Adamu Usman Ahmed, has declared his confidence in the opposition’s ability to win the upcoming governorship election and block Governor Bala Mohammed from installing a preferred successor. Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Ahmed emphasized that Bauchi voters have consistently demonstrated their independence in political decisions and are unlikely to support any attempt to hand power to a chosen candidate. He pointed to the state’s political history, noting that no governor has ever successfully imposed a successor, which he believes gives the opposition a strong advantage.

Ahmed highlighted that the political landscape ahead of the election is significantly different from previous contests due to the increased number of parties participating. “The dynamics of politics have changed,” he stated. “Unlike the past when elections were mainly between two parties, this time there are about seven or eight parties contesting. Having many candidates in the race gives us an advantage.” He believes this fragmentation weakens the chances of any single candidate, including those backed by the incumbent governor, from securing a majority.

Governor Bala Mohammed, who once chaired the PDP Governors’ Forum, recently left the PDP to join the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) amid internal party divisions. Ahmed suggested that this shift has further complicated the political environment, creating opportunities for the opposition to gain ground. He stressed that the people of Bauchi are “always wise” and will make decisions based on their interests, not political maneuvering.

If elected, Ahmed pledged to prioritize job creation as the cornerstone of his administration. “Our major target will be job creation,” he said, emphasizing that providing employment opportunities for young people and improving livelihoods across the state would be his top priority. He believes that addressing unemployment will not only stimulate economic growth but also foster social stability and reduce youth restiveness.

Ahmed’s campaign is positioning itself as a fresh alternative to the current administration, with a focus on inclusive development and youth empowerment. His message resonates with many voters who are concerned about economic hardship and limited opportunities. As the election draws nearer, his campaign is gaining traction in key wards and local governments across Bauchi State.

The upcoming governorship election is expected to be highly competitive, with multiple candidates from different parties vying for the seat. Ahmed’s confidence reflects a broader sentiment among opposition leaders that the electorate is ready for change. His campaign’s emphasis on job creation and democratic integrity may influence voter behavior in a state where economic challenges remain a central concern. The outcome of the election could mark a significant shift in Bauchi’s political trajectory, setting the stage for a new chapter in the state’s governance.
