38 Foreign Nationals Arrested in Ogun for Immigration Violations, Not Terrorism

The Ogun State Police Command has clarified that 38 foreign nationals from Côte d’Ivoire were arrested during a recent security operation in Kajola-Ilese and Atan-Ota, and that none of them were bandits, kidnappers, or terrorists, as falsely reported on social media. The suspects, consisting of 19 males and 19 females aged between 25 and 35, were apprehended in an apartment following credible intelligence. Authorities confirmed that the individuals had entered Nigeria for online business activities but failed to produce valid immigration or travel documents during preliminary screening.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the operation did not result in the arrest of any violent criminals or security threats. He stated clearly that no banditry, kidnapping, or terrorism-related incident was linked to the apprehension of the foreign nationals. Babaseyi warned that spreading false information connecting the suspects to violent crimes could create unnecessary panic and disturb public peace. He urged the public to rely on verified sources and avoid amplifying unconfirmed reports.

The suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service after initial police procedures for further investigation and administrative action in accordance with immigration laws. The police stressed the importance of accurate reporting and responsible communication in maintaining public order. They called on citizens to verify security-related information through official channels before sharing it on social media or other platforms.

The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state. They emphasized that security operations must be reported truthfully to prevent misinformation from undermining public confidence. The arrest of the 38 Ivorian nationals underscores ongoing efforts to regulate illegal immigration and ensure compliance with Nigerian laws. The incident also highlights the need for vigilance in distinguishing between legitimate security operations and misleading narratives that may circulate online.

As Nigeria continues to face challenges related to immigration and cybersecurity, authorities are working to ensure that foreign nationals engage in lawful activities while respecting national regulations. The Ogun State Police Command’s clarification serves as a reminder that accurate information is essential in maintaining social stability. Moving forward, the public is encouraged to remain informed through official sources to support a secure and peaceful environment.
